THIS IS WHAT THE SPORT NEEDS – MORE PITCHING IN. AND MUCH LESS BITCHING!
TYRE WALL PROJECT, Barbagallo Raceway
“AT 7.30am on Sunday 15th of January, around 25+ volunteers met at Barbagallo to commence the next project aimed at having a speedy return for motorcycles to the race track.
“The day’s project was a simple extension of the existing tyre wall at T7 by around 65 metres – double stack car tyres, chained with conveyor belts fixed to the front.
“First up huge thanks to Shaun Gardner for his truck, trailer and bobcat and Peter Girling for his truck, which made the transportation of the tyre stacks so much easier than our initial project at T6 on Tuesday. Without their help it would have been a long, hard slog in the heat. Thanks guys!!
“In all we positioned 186 stacks of tyres x 6 high a total of 1116 tyres.
“But with both Gardner and Girling able to get their respective trucks very close to the required site, the tyres were all in place in a little under an hour. Then, with an army of Hole saws, the drilling and chaining began and again (unlike Tuesday) many hands made light work of the situation and the conveyor belting – which wasn’t in the initial plan for the day – was all in place, with the whole job complete in just 3.25 hours!
“Good to see so many people volunteering to help. Especially good to see Neil Stewart, Jacob Kelsall, Brendan Taylor coming back for a second dose of punishment in five days. The current MCRCWA President Mr. Paul Castling became a tyre-loader for the morning, along with the immediate past President Mr. Adrian Mettam who got stuck in to the chaining. Also present was Tim Simmons, Member of the MCRCWA Executive Committee and Chairman of the Competitions committee.
“In all five MCRCWA Life Members were present on the day – Adrian Mettam, Peter Girling, myself and a huge thanks to Karen Dore for morning tea and Denise Stronach for lunch. Also Macca and Brendan, who are the driving force behind the Trakdayz organisation.
“To everyone who turned up a huge thank you, I would have liked to have named you all.
“We are now a considerable way towards a return to the track.”
