There’s a lot at stake at Hockenheim this week as F1 heads to Germany for the second last race before the northern Summer hiatus – Sebi could do with a win, Valtteri’s due for a break, Pierre is looking the goods, Charles is keeping everyone on their tippy toes, and Dan has a headache. Meanwhile, wunderkind Lewis is odds-on to win again.

Focus is on Haas pilots Romain Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen in particular after they took each other out on Lap 1 at Silverstone infuriating Team Principal Guenther Steiner. It’ll be no surprise if one of them moves on by season’s end. If not before!

The frightful thought that F1 and Britain’s pride and joy Silverstone would part ways has been put to rest with the sport’s Supremo Chase Carey and British Racing Drivers Club chairman John Grant basking in the limelight after inking the deal until 2024.

Some 353,000 fans flocked into Northhamptonshire – that’s some 80k more than paid to get in to watch The Open at Royal Portrush (though I doubt the Irish links track could have handled many more).

Silverstone circuit owners BRDC seem to have put paid to a London race. For now.

At Hockenheim a new overall lap record was set last year by Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel in qualifying, but Kimi Raikkonen and his McLaren-Mercedes still hold the fastest race lap record, way back in 2004.

For many years the German circuit alternated with the Nurburgring, 219kms away, then it dropped off the calendar before returning last year to Formula One.
