THE BUNBURY CITY CENTRE will come alive with the colour and noise of tarmac rallying as 100 competitors in classic and modern machines take to the streets on Sunday June 25.
“The street circuit is exciting for competitors, spectators and local businesses as Mustangs, Chevrolets and Porches as well as some nostalgic Datsuns, Minis, Escorts and Toranas race the clock,” Event Director Ross Tapper said. GT Fabrication Targa Bunbury Sprint spectators can get up close to the cars during the Shannons Show ‘n’ Shine along Victoria Street from 5.30pm Saturday.
Rallysprint action fires up 9am Sunday in the Halifax light industrial area around the four-kilometre course. Competitors tackle the course four times clockwise and four times anticlockwise.
Rallysprint is a great way to enjoy competitive motorsport without the time commitment and expense required in the traditional rally format.
“It’s fast, fun and great for those new to rallying as well as those more experienced who want to keep their skills honed,” Ross Tapper said. “Rallysprint requires teamwork between driver and co-driver and the ability to drive with obstacles in close vicinity of the road, neither of which can be practised on a race track.”
The GT Fabrication Targa Bunbury Sprint is the next Tarmac Rallysprint on the 2017 Quit Targa Cup calendar.
“We have expanded our event portfolio and with the addition of a Western Australia tarmac rally series the WA Quit Targa Cup and the continued support from sponsors Healthway and Shannons Insurance, we’re confident of another fantastic year,” Ross said.
