It Always Helps to be up the Front

CALAN WILLIAMS showed fine style in completing his first practice day in Formula 3, during an Open Wheel Festival last weekend at Wakefield Park, the 2.2km circuit near Goulburn in country New South Wales.

It was a lead-in event to the 2017 F3 Championship – six-rounds mooted for three States, later in the year. “It provided a perfect opportunity for me to become accustomed with working with the Gilmour Racing Team, and also continue my development in this category under race conditions,”  said 16-year-old Calan.

Praise for his Team Mate

“To help this even further, I have 2015 Australian Formula 3 Champion Jon Collins in the other Gilmour Racing car which is a fantastic opportunity for me. It was great working with Jon and the rest of the team.

“I was very pleased with my pace, and I felt very comfortable with the car. The track is very busy, with lots of gear changes, turns and braking, and on top of that there was quite a bit of traffic to contend with. We managed to get in five solid practice runs which meant a total of near 70 laps, so a full day of excellent practice.”

Second, and second overall is a Good Start

Calan had a better start in the last race to again finish second, and second for the day making it a 1- 2 finish every race for Gilmour Racing.

“Well done Jon Collins on the win and thank you to my wonderful sponsors – ES2, Truck Dealers Australia, The Wealth Designers, Edith Cowan University (ECU), Kingsway Community Bank Branch, Impressions – The Home Builder, Grand Toyota Wangara, Fullworks Fire Safety, Ballajura Indoor Sports, Online Logistics Solutions, Rvend Vending Machines, Signarama Joondalup, Focused Recruitment, McDonnell Group, F45 Training Hillarys, Trizone Fitness and Mercure Canberra.”
