RENAULT has brought along a few tricks that might make a difference to the performance of the rides of Dan Ricciardo and his teammate Nico Hulkenberg at this weekend’s French F1 Grand Prix. Honda also has introduced an engine upgrade, earlier than expected, which should make Red Bull pilots Max Verstappen and Pierre Gasly very happy.

The 15 corners around the 5.8km Circuit Paul Ricard at Le Castellet, near Marseille, have been resurfaced since it rejoined the F1 convoy last year and the smooth surface will prove challenging. It also boasts a 1.8km straight (with chicane)!

Summer’s particularly pleasant in that part of the world and the forecast is around 30C for Sunday’s race.

Thunder Down Under

Back Down Under in Dan’s hometown of Perth, Barbagallo Raceway is ready to rock firing up on Sunday with grids of Excel Cup cars, Formula Classics, Formula Fords, Formula Vees, F1000s and 6SR Sports Cars, Holden HQs, Improved Production, and Saloon Cars.

And in the State’s beautiful south west, the GT Fabrication Targa Bunbury Sprint has attracted an impressive field of 115 ranging from classic Minis, Datsuns and Ford Escorts to powerful V8s, turbo-charged rally cars and exotic.

They’re competing, according to Event Director Ross Tapper, in the fastest growing segment of motorsport in Australia.

No doubt there’s a lot more motorsport happening in WA. But if no one bothers to tell me …
