DSR Report re Barbagallo Raceway

Dear Members,

Here are a few words regarding getting back on track for 2017.

Yesterday as many of you are aware DSR, WASCC and Motorcycling WA met to discuss the Hall Report. We are pleased to report that progress is being made but further meetings need to take place with WASCC before the required safety improvements will be made. Plans are underway already to upgrade certain areas during the month of January.

The WASCC have confirmed that our dates for 2017 still stand.

WASCC have indicated they want the return of bikes to Barbagallo Raceway. They are currently working on safety improvements for this to happen. It has only been a few weeks and the level of planning for change does take time, so please, be patient.

What is vitally important is we continue to plan our 2017 season “business as usual”. We will still be having our AGM on the 7th December at the Clubrooms and appointing office bearers and committees for 2017 so please come along.

May I ask that you don’t lose faith, renew your race licenses, renew your membership and continue to support our great club. Sure, we have had a summer holiday imposed on us but after the year we have had I think a break is an opportunity to recharge our weary batteries. The bar on Friday nights will still be open. If you are in the area please pop in and say hi, the drinks are cheaper than any other place around and we need your support now more than ever.

I know it is tough but try to not be sucked in by mainstream media and also social media. Things are said and twisted to ‘make’ a story and often reported by the ill-informed and over-opinionated. What I can promise you is I will keep members up to date with any progress via our website and Facebook pages. So, if you haven’t ‘liked’ us on Facebook make sure you jump on board.
Finally please don’t ring the club or Denise and Michele for any updates, these will come from either me or MWA/MA.

If I don’t see you at the AGM then please have a safe Christmas and New Year. Don’t forget to renew your membership.

Take Care

MCRCWA President

10/11/2016

The Motorcycle Racing Club of WA has been notified today by Barbagallo Raceway that due to track requirements all events at the circuit have been postponed due to a report released by DSR.

MA and MWA have welcomed the DSR commissioned report – the Wanneroo Safety Enhancement Assessment.

Whilst they are assessing the contents of this report Barbagallo management have taken the appropriate precautionary approach of ceasing motorcycle racing activities on this track. They will announce shortly when racing activities will resume.

As the MCRC currently has no further information on what is in the DSR report we can make no further comment, and we please ask that members and competitors respect the privacy of the families that have suffered this year.

If you booked for a RideDays Training course in November and December, then you will receive a separate email shortly.

Please be assured that your Club President and Executive Committee are working together with MWA to find a resolution.

If you have any further questions regarding the postponement, then please contact Motorcycling WA.

BULLETIN – MWA

B U L L E T I N

TO: ALL ROAD RACE CLUBS/PROMOTERS/RIDERS
FROM: Rick Gill, CEO
DATE: 18 November 2016
SUBJECT: Competition Licences for Road Race

WITH the closure of Barbagallo for racing at least in the short term MWA would like to assure members that no rider will be disadvantaged where the issue of licences is concerned.

For members who compete in the road race discipline and have RENEWED or been issued a NEW licence dated after November 7, we will refund in full your licence costs upon request.

For existing licence holders issued with a licence prior to November 7, MWA will reassess the situation closer to the race season and will work out an arrangement at that time to credit the balance of any remaining licence until its expiry, should the track remain closed.

All rider numbers will be quarantined to ensure riders who do not renew prior to Barbagallo re-opening will not be disadvantaged by losing their allocated race number.

In the meantime we are doIng our utmost to have the circuit re-open.

RICK GILL
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Adrian’s comment: Please note all MCRCWA listings in the What’s On category are affected until further advice. I’m sure the motorsport community will support the efforts of all to get a speedy and sensible resolution to this crisis and look forward to seeing this great sport – and the vital services it offers to enthusiasts – back at Barbagallo Raceway.
