IN 37C AND DUSTY CONDITIONS around Jarrahdale Saturday RAZLAN VLAD and fellow competitors raced 82 kilometres on two stages – run three times – during the fiercely contested Darling 200. The final round of the CAMS Onslow Contracting Western Australian 2WD Rally Championship saw all categories compete the same distance.

Even before the event go underway, Razvan Vlad said he was going for the win. And he did just that, finishing fastest on all six stages with co-driver Daymon Nicoli in their MAXYRally 2004 Ford Fiesta. “I’ve now won Darling two years in a row so it’s fast becoming my favourite event,” he quipped.
Gregory and Deann Flood were second in their Greg Flood Electrical 1994 Mitsubishi Lancer. Third was Andy van Kann and co-driver Murray Hynes in the vkrallye 1974 Toyota Corolla.
Lance Stringer and co-pilot Jace Van Saarloos took out the Clubman Cup in their Lawnswood Pet Cremation 1989 Nissan Silvia S13. For 44-year-old Lance it was a realisation of a 30-year dream.
Finishing second in the Darling 200 was enough for Brock Nicoli and Daniel Adams to win the 2017 Clubman Cup series, in their MAXYEngineering 1994 Mitsubishi Lancer.
Dene Courtis and Robert King took out the Darling 200 Clubman Masters in their Askwith Safe company 1990 Toyota Corolla FX GT. Series winners Julian Wright and co-driver Ian de Boer had an unbeatable lead and didn’t run on Saturday as they prepared for December’s Alpine Rally, held every two years in Lakes Entrance in Victoria.
