Longtime Formula One Race Director Charlie Whiting died March 14 in Melbourne. It is understood the 66-year-old suffered a pulmonary embolism. Charlie’s passing is a huge loss to world motorsport. He really was “Mr Formula One”. On a personal note, Charlie never failed to take my calls when, as GM of Western Australia’s Barbagallo Raceway, we were about to undertake a track resurface and I was desperate for knowledge. He could not have been more helpful. He was indeed a true gentleman.
Our sincere condolences to his family.
