The news many motorsport fans have been hanging on: Stadium Super Trucks owner Robby Gordon has his Australian licence back. His widely publicised – and criticised – antics on the streets of Darwin in June cost the former IndyCar and NASCAR ace a $4000 fine and a big black mark. Now an apology and additional 10 grand donation to the Australian Road Safety Foundation has seen him free to renew his competition visa. Confederation of Australian Motor Sport CEO Eugene Arocca today confirmed Gordon’s written apology and donation. According to Arocca, Gordon said it was not his intention to
“engage in any actions that were inconsistent with, or prejudicial to the interests of motor sports in Australia”.
Gordon’s Stadium Super Trucks have been a smash hit wherever they’ve performed. And my bet is the WA Sporting Car Club would welcome the series back to Barbagallo next year in a heartbeat for the Virgin Australia Supercars Perth SuperSprint May 4-6.
