Sunday’s Raceday at Barbagallo
TAYLA DICKER was just was just eight when she started racing karts. That’s what so many kids do today. They absolutely love the sport. So did she, scooping up a couple of hard fought State championships along the track. 
At 16, Tayla was the youngest driver in her first Formula Ford competition at Barbagallo Raceway’s Wanneroo 300 enduro. She also was the only female racing on the day. And, she recalls:
“The Formula Ford was faster than anything I’d ever driven. And that was the first time I had to change gears when I raced!”
Now the Curtin Uni student who works in the family business Flatout Karts, has stepped up bigtime.
F1000 is Seriously Quick
Tomorrow, Sunday, Tayla’ll be zooming around the 2.41km Barbagallo Raceway circuit behind the wheel of a powerful Arise Racing F1000. The F1000 is a space frame openwheeler category, utilising standard 1000cc 4-cylinder motorcycle engines, and integral gearboxes with chain driven differentials. It’s seriously quick! Tayla’s journey so far has included being named winner of the CAMS Women in Australian Motorsport’s Junior Development Scholarship for 2014-15.
“I really enjoy racing and the whole atmosphere at the track.” Not surprisingly, Tayla hopes to encourage more girls into motorsport. “I’d love to be an inspiration or mentor for other females,’ she said.
